My Response To The Ghana Mall Collapse
Alright, while I am here and this site is going through some technical problems I will just write something about what I just read in a Ghana news site. I read that a 6 storey mall collapsed.I don't know the real details but it just leaves me to wonder what type of materials were used to build the mall and the construction methods the builders used to build it because buildings that high don't just collapse unless faulty methods were used.I think that the builders used faulty construction methods because I just don't know how concrete can just collapse like that.I have heard of wood collapsing to the ground due to faulty construction methods but never concrete material because that is what is used in Ghana and all the other developing nations due to the climates that comes into the country. It is always hot in Ghana and the most of Africa and wood can burn easily in hot, grimy weather. So concrete is used for buildings.I don't know the whole story but there has to be some fault in the mall design which has caused the building to collapse.Hopefully another building doesn't collapse in Ghana because that would be disastrous for the country. It will also send the message that building something fast is better than thinking about the safety of the building and not testing it for that purpose.
It just seems to me that these construction companies just want to try and rush certain construction jobs and getting them out there for the people to use rather than taking time to see whether there are any faults in their building methods that they use. It's always rush, rush, rush.I have been noticing that here in Calgary where these home builders are just building the houses for people live in because clients are in a hurry to move into their new homes but never really check the houses thoroughly to see if they're safe to live in.A few years ago I watched some news story of some houses which were built in Cochrane that had some cases of mold in them after the people moved into them. And you know what mold is and what it can do?It can make people sick and make the house unsafe. And they were brand new homes too.So that ought to tell you something.
But getting back to the Ghana mall collapse. It was a real tragedy something like this happened but I thought that more attention should have been put into the safety of the building rather than just leaving it there for people to get into without consideration on whether the building was safe or not.Hopefully this will teach the builders and city officials a lesson in building development that it's always good to inspect it in a couple of years after being built.

With every trace of life, it seems, confined within a frame,
the faces move from day to day, but the strips all look the same.
And the punch lines are resoundingly unfunny
for those trapped in this architecture of easy money

HIGH-END OFFICES EQUIPPED WITH LUXONIC’S ADVANCED CHILLED BEAM LUMINAIRES
The development of a high-end building in London has been installed with 900 of Luxonic Lighting’s chilled beam luminaires. One Pancras Square is a part of the King’s Cross development and accommodates offices over eight floors, including the new head office for French Fashion designers Louis Vuitton.
The Grade A office building has been rated BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and is installed with the latest technology to minimise environmental impact and reduce running costs for its occupiers.
Widely regarded as the most space and energy efficient method of heating and cooling a building, the chilled beam systems increase the design and sustainable potential of projects. Luxonic’s Airlux is a range of satin lensed small nose cone luminaires that have been specifically developed for seamless integration into chilled beam structures to provide controllable light outputs that achieve the optimum lit environment.
The Airlux range has been adopted for passive and active multi-service chilled beam systems (MSCBs) across a variety of projects but most notably in commercial office developments. Supplied as a standard with DALI dimmable control gear, the satin lens provide asymmetric upward and downward light to large open offices areas while eliminating uncomfortable glare.
Available with square edged and bullnose lens versions, the Airlux is versatile to accommodate the specific requirements for design led projects. The Airlux luminaires have been used on MSCBs in fit outs of many commercial office developments which benefit extensively from the integration of low energy lighting with the air conditioning and heating services of the chilled beams.
The innovative technologies used to create the various chilled beams aim to reduce energy consumption and improve comfort for the occupants by lowering the potential for draughts and cutting out the intrusive noise and using Luxonic’s efficient Airlux luminaires adds to the savings.
The Airlux luminaires have been a popular choice for MSCB installations in commercial office projects such as One Pancras Square, primarily for its efficient lighting distribution as well as sustainability. The advanced technology of the Airlux is well matched to the environmental credentials of the building development. As a part of a two million sq ft cluster of office buildings, One Pancras Square is on the doorstep of Kings Cross and St Pancras train stations as well as having great accessibility to the London Underground, with an entrance situated within the building itself. Pancras Square has an immense range of cafes and shops as well as a public leisure centre and library making it the perfect place for office workers to have lunch, socialise and relax.
Further information is available from Luxonic Lighting on 01256 363090, by [email protected] or by visiting the company’s website at www.luxonic.co.uk

Architectural Surveys, Procedures and Uses
Tumblr media
Architectural surveyors establish the official boundaries of a property in land, airspace and water by measuring the Earth and determining the shape and contour of a specific parcel of land. When designing a project, landscape architects, civil engineers, and regional and urban planners will need architectural surveys in order to create comprehensive design documents.
There are multiple tasks that a surveyor would be responsible for. They would need to measure distances and angles between two points on, above and below the ground. Using special equipment, one doing building surveying would select identified orientation points and then determine the exact location of significant features in the required area. Like any data, the accuracy of the results will need to be verified. Once those points have been established, maps and reports are then made to show the boundaries or the land. Working with a cartographer, a map will be made and then the findings can be presented to clients or government agencies. Their job does not stop there; architectural surveyors will also need to research land records and any other records that might have an impact on the development of a piece of property. They will write descriptions for deeds or leases of the land and if called upon, they must provide expert testimony in court regarding their findings.
Architectural surveys serve many purposes. They guide construction and development of properties, determine the future location of roads or buildings, and determine the proper depth for the foundations of the buildings and the roads. These surveys are called for whenever a piece of land is bought or sold. Surveyors will use a global positioning system (GPS) to locate reference points as accurately as possible. Once the information is verified, the data is fed into a Geographic Information System (GIS) in order to created detailed maps.
Chris Nelson and Associates Inc., located in southern California provide a multitude of land surveying services including architectural surveys. They do so with the utmost professionalism and will work with both the public and private sectors of the community.

My Take On The Fastest Growing Cities In Africa Video On YouTube
Good afternoon to you all.I am back here again and I just want to pass this short and fast thought before making a video for my channel.I was thinking about this video that I saw on YouTube about Africa and the fastest growing cities in Africa and I have to say that I was impressed with the video. They had developed all sorts of plans on what they are going to do or how they will build these skyscrapers and towers for these cities.I have to say that they had or showed very good plans and how the land will be spread out in order for the buildings to develop.I looked at the video and was impressed while at the same time I was a bit disappointed about it since while these building developers had plans I was wondering if and how they will execute those plans because these jobs cost a whole lot of money and time and how these politicians operate in Africa, they will probably steal the money and spend it on themselves leaving these unfinished buildings to hang dry.I am not saying that it is going to happen but at times it's known to happen. There is still some corruption among African countries which haven't entirely disappeared.Buildings take time and money since materials such as concrete cost money.Of course there is steel as well which is needed in order to keep the buildings from falling or cracking.Concrete itself isn't good enough to hold them upright especially in Africa where it gets to be very hot.
So I am not so sure about these plans I saw on YouTube on Africa which displayed the fastest growing cities. If these politician and builders are going to be able to pull off those plans and execute them.Turn these actual floor plans into actual buildings. It just seems like a whole lot of hype and talk but we will take a wait and see approach.
